A Metro Pacific Water Company

TaTap Ilonggo

Caring hands

The name TaTAP derived from the Hiligaynon word for “to care” (with a focus on TAP as a water source), reflects MPIW’s vision of becoming the “Partner of Choice” for the communities it serves. Through this program, MPIW actively contributes to the development of these communities.

Vision:

Empowering communities through safe and reliable water.

Mission:

Promote cooperation and active participation with all stakeholders to achieve common goals, with a strong focus on engaging communities, particularly in environmental and local community impact efforts. To ensure a focused and measurable approach, our CSR efforts are organized into four key areas:

We recognize the critical importance of aligning our pillars with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDGs) to identify where our actions could have meaningful impacts in supporting global sustainability outcomes. Metro Pacific Iloilo Water has identified SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities); and SDG 13 (Climate Action) as our priority SDGs in which we create the most impact.

Our key initiatives on those SDGs are as follows:

Clean Water and Sanitation

Ensure availability and sustainability management of water and sanitation for all.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Stakeholder Engagement

Our relationships are built on dialogue and collaboration.

  • Trust in our company is built on long-term relationships and relationships are built on dialogue and collaboration.
  • We need to understand how our business impacts people and listen to community and societal expectations so we can build and maintain legal and social consents for our operations.
  • Across our organization, business units will have different types of relationships with stakeholders, each requiring different formats and approaches for engagement and collaboration.
  • For directly affected communities and stakeholders, we seek to obtain and sustain a broad base of support. This support is built when we listen to different views in the community on the impacts and risks of business activities, including potential mitigation measures, and apply this information to our operational and business planning and decisions.

Social Investment

Investing in our communities and aligning our focus with community-identified needs and priorities is one way we are working to make a positive and lasting contribution.

To achieve this, we develop community engagement and initiatives in consultation with the communities we live and work in. This ensures our programs align with each community’s needs and priorities and supports social and economic development in a manner that avoids dependencies over the long-term.

Primarily, our social investment programs contribute to:
Education, training, and employment.
Community health.
Local business support and/or development; and
Water supply and handwashing infrastructure.

A positive contribution can be made in many ways. One way we try to add value is through Sponsorships and Donations, either monetary or in-kind. Each of our operations have specific Sponsorship and Donation programs to support the surrounding communities, developed through a participative process that reflects the key needs of the local context.

  • Funding requests for specific activities within the local communities can be applied for in writing, using the stated process at each operation.
  • The application is then measured against key criteria to monitor sustainable actions and move away from creating dependencies.
  • A stringent due diligence process is also incorporated to promote transparency and uphold our organizational values.

Partnerships

Partnerships play a key role in supporting sustainable development by integrating the core values from both parties to work towards a common goal.

At MPIW we are committed to making a positive contribution to communities within our service areas; while ensuring we are leaving a positive legacy every day. We achieve this by forging innovative and sustainable partnerships with our local suppliers, governments, community groups, industry leaders, education providers, technology partners and NGOs.

In 2019, MPIW implemented an increased participative approach into engagement practices, resulting in opportunities to partner with various stakeholder groups.
